The meaning of this blog's title is two-fold: (1) this is a space where I write about my beliefs, ideas, and experiences, and (2) all my beliefs are affected by my faith in Christ within the Orthodox Church, ortho meaning right or true and dox meaning worship or belief. No matter how trivial the topic, I hope my words always reflect this perspective.

I have never seen an episode of Lost.
When people start talking about it, I feel, well, you know . . .
I don't often do this, especially with new boxed sets, but I'd be willing to let you borrow Season 1 to get caught up. Don't I recall you posting that Twin Peaks was one of your favorite shows? Lost has been widely compared to that show for its character-driven mystery factor, so I know you would love it. And have we discussed Arrested Development yet???
Yes, Twin Peaks is probably my all-time favorite. When does the new season of Lost start? I'd love to get into a new show, because I am currently completely show-less at the moment.
I'm hoping to get back in touch with The Amazing Race and 24 this season, too.
We have not yet discussed Arrested Development, but I hear it's fantastic.
Lost premiers Wed. Sept. 21 @ 7, so you'd have a busy early week to get caught up... but I may have to bring season 1 to church on Sunday just in case you can find the time. And maybe Arrested Development, too. I always feel a little bad recommending it to people, because it does often cross the line of what I consider to be appropriate humor... but man, they do it so well you just have to respect them. Everything about that show is perfect--casting, acting, scripts, editing, pace, plotlines. And it's so off the wall, like no sitcom you've ever seen... you will love it.
if you only pick one drama and one comedy to be "your shows" this season, you can't get any better than Lost and A.D.
trust the G'Miz'.
Are you kidding me? This is a girl who just quoted off-color mis-readings of such Celebrity Jeopardy categories as "Therapists"/"The Rapists." I'm sure I'd love Arrested Development. Is it anything like The Office? That's the best comedy show I've ever seen, hands down. British version, of course.
AvaAvaAvaAvaAva. The original The Office is the only show I would mention in the same sentence as Arrested Development. They are nothing alike in terms of style and pacing but they share the hallmark of a truly great comedy: no laugh-track. When you don't have to prompt the audience to laugh, you know you have comedy gold.
And you know Ricky Gervais has a new show starting this Sunday on HBO at 9:30, right? It's called Extras, about the life of struggling actors. I can't wait. He was on Daily Show the other night--I could barely contain my glee at watching the two modern-day masters play off one another. Throw in Conan and Mitchell Hurwitz (creator/writer/director of Arrested Development and you have the highest concentration of funny in recorded history... hm, that gives me an idea for a new post
Darnit, I missed Ricky Gervais on the Daily Show?? Cr@p.
Well, I have managed to see the first two episodes of Extras. Thought the stuff with Ben Stiller was a little over the top, but I LOVED Kate Winslet. And those classic Gervais-Merchant moments of awkward silence: PRICELESS. It's not as side-splittingly funny as The Office (but what is, really?), but still quite enjoyable. One of the things I love about their shows is all that dialogue that's muttered so quickly and in that British accent, underneath their breath, it's almost like you have to rewind it three times to fully catch what they're saying. And then when you finally hear the whole thing, you realize how brilliant the comedy is.
Have you seen any of the episodes?
I saw the premiere and have ep. 2 waiting for me on DVR. I agree with your take; doesn't appear to have Office level potential, but I'd listen to Ricky do running commentary of a golf tournament. My favorite moment from the first ep. was one of those muttered Britishisms:
"Kate Winslet, talking dirty to Anne Frank and Joseph Goebbels - just another... normal day." And yes, the Stephen Merchant moments were painfully funny.
have I mentioned yet that Ricky is co-starring in the next Christopher Guest movie? I've started laughter calisthenics to prepare for the trauma.
You're kidding! No, I did not know about the Guest-Gervais collaboration. That is going to kill me.
Better start preparing that will soon.
